What is it?

 

We think it's brass, and it expands to around 6 inches in diameter.

For a purse neck closure maybe but I'm not sure if there is enough to tack fabric to. Maybe some googling will tell.

Just noticed a purse with this type closure on the Murdoch Mysteries season 11 episode 9. I probably wouldn't have noticed it without the photo in this thread.

 

If you are like the rest of us you sometimes get distracted from the storyline because you are looking at the stuff in the scene. LOL

 

I've seen stuff I actually own......and am always looking ....to see if the items are period correct.......

 

I lost most of the Big Reveal in an episode of Boardwalk Empire when I spotted a familiar image on a child's grave marker.
