Where did you see this "following" thing? I didn't see it anywhere on the page and don't think I have ever noticed anything like it, despite having used FAG for years. There is 1 person who "left flowers" - is that what you mean?

 

I clicked on left flowers, it took me to a new page and showed a follower.

I just joined the FAG, and don’t completely understand it. On the Worsham one,it also has an older grave which says it’s sponsored. Do you know what that means?

 

Oh. I've never bothered to do that. Sometimes the people who leave flowers are relatives - and they usually include a message with the flowers that gives you an indication of relationship. Other times I've seen flowers left by the person who created the page (often a FAG volunteer who works on documenting that cemetery.) If he or she is not accepting messages, I wouldn't try.

Let me see what I can do with the Margaret and Joe in that grave.

 

Sponsored means that someone has made a donation to support the site.

@Huntingtreasure Did you click on Margaret and Joe's children's links on FAG? Lots of info there.

 

She's either a close relative or the "family genealogist" for the Swinford/Boucher family. One of Margaret and Joe's daughters married a Swinford!

 

I did, lots of half siblings and the like, I’ll try to wrestle with it.

 

I think I’ll message her. She is accepting messages.

 

As for contacting her - why not! Worst thing that happens is that she never replies. Go for it!

I noticed just now that if you click on the Source link (which is how you find the maintainer of the memorial now) a bunch of people are listed as Followers. They may be following the site maintainer rather than the particular memorial.

 

Thank you for explaining that figtree3. I already messaged to the sponsor and the woman who wrote that genealogy report, it looks as though she is related, but I will keep digging. Thank you.

 

Somewhat of an update...
Find A Grave is researching these photos. They will be adding to their memorial section.So for now I await...updates from them.

 

Update -
This weekend many months later, I received a response from the the relative I contacted through Find A Grave.
She was the relative we concluded she would be. She seemed happy the photos would be added to the website, but didn’t seem interested further than that.
And so it ended, I will now try to figure out what to do from here.

Thanks for the update, @Huntingtreasure -- I'm glad she replied. What do you think you might do next? I guess some choices are whether to sell the album, or to keep it, or to donate it to a repository that would take care of it ... or to look for more relatives.

 

Oh, early in this thread you mentioned only two choices ... keeping it or finding a relative who wants it. I have a few old albums now and will be making the same choices. I did have a small CDV album once in which almost all of the photos were from the same town in Illinois. I ended up donating that one to their local historical society, since they said they would be interested.

 

I’m leaning toward trying to recoup some of my investment in it. I feel I did due diligence in trying to return it. I’m really not a seller though.
I live in a very arid climate and don’t want it to sit around here.
