jewelry - Copy.png jewelll.jpg jewel2.jpg My mother and I would like to learn more about this piece of jewelry that's been in the family for quite some time. It's about 2.6 ounces of 18 karat (chain) and 14 karat (statue in bowl) gold. My mother would rather keep it in the family rather than it sell for it's weight in gold, but we are interested in seeing if it has any value outside of its gold content. I'm usually pretty good about researching and appraising the value of objects, but this has me stumped! I can't seem to figure out anything about it or what the symbol (hallmark?) means. I've attached photos of the piece and another of the symbol, any help in identifying some sort of maker or origin would be much appreciated!

Looks like a little 1960s/1970s Buddha charm. (Similar to this one.) Did you great-grandmother ever travel?

Gorgeous chain, please don't sell it for the gold weight.
I think the chain (bracelet?) is older than the pendant. The pendant is attached with a thin silvery ring, which is not in keeping with the heavy quality of the chain. The different gold content also indicates a marriage. It is a very nice pendant though. And I agree, very likely 60s or early 70s.
The chain would have had a charm when it was made, as you can see from the soldered ring which looks part of the original chain.

I can't help you with the pretty bat mark, as komo said, a maker's mark.
I don't know where you are, but given the 18k mark, with a k, it was probably made in North America. Maybe one of our US members will know.

I agree. The chain is older (and of better quality) and was reused to add later charm (which is of lesser interest.) You might want to do a search of your great-grandmother's jewelry box and see if a spare charm is lying about.

@bilge5000 @komokwa @Any Jewelry @Debora , I have seen this hallmark ... now , my memory may be wrong , BUT , there is a high end Watch shop , I mean big bucks top of the line watches, Rolex, Omega and the even more expensive stuff in Westfield Valley Fair mall in San Jose , in their window is a display of high end Chinese gold Jewelry , I mean like $20,000 gold Necklaces , etc , and I THINK I saw that hallmark on those pieces. I may be wrong ..but I know I have seen it somewhere and it left an impression , so I think that was it . Could it be Chinese Gold ???

Can't see any details in that picture (even after clicking on it.) What are we supposed to be seeing?

The store front of a Chinese fine jewelry store in San Jose. Not at all surprised the OP spotted bats there as an ubiquitous Chinese symbol.

Thank you all for the help so far! The charm definitely looks to be of different origin from the chain, but since the original charm wasn't attached to the original chain I'm pretty sure the real charm was sold some time ago. Regarding the chain being Chinese gold, I'm not sure if my great great grandmother ever traveled very far, but I do know she was an entertainer around the bay area. If that makers mark is on the jewelry at the store Firemandk saw, the chain maybe could have come from a similar or older store around the bay area.

That wouldn't surprise me. Chinese and other Asian stuff was and is sold in the Bay area early and often. I would not be selling either for melt weight.
