This is an ebay piece I purchased about 16 years ago. Was advertised as vintage dress ring but it definitely seems to be gold in weight, feel and wear. It has no marks though. The dark brown stone is very nicely cut. Is it glass? Seems to be an older ring and the detailing and setting is very nice. Welcome Daisy. It is a very nice ring, did you check it for tiny gold marks? I wouldn't be surprised if it were Dutch.

Could you take another photo of the front please? This one is very blurry. A white background helps the focus, and it also helps us to see the colour of the stone.
The seeming lack of colour on the tiny fractures (where the facets meet) do look like glass would be one of the options, but you would have to get it tested to be sure.

That's good enough quality to be gold.

I agree. And it looks like gold, but it is best to be certain.

Agree with the others, certainly looks good enough to be gold so worth testing. There are many black/very dark stones from glass through sapphire, so again it needs to be tested otherwise it's just guessing. In the UK I see mounts in this style with hallmarks from the 30's to the 50's, but also later as revival pieces from the 70's onwards.
