    Good evening everyone,

I got a few items recently that I'm excited to share with you! This all started when I came across a listing for plated silver. As I've mentioned in previous posts, just because a seller says something is plated, doesn't necessarily mean that they are. There was one obvious clue that the bowl below was sterling silver, and the plate was wayyyyyy too intriguing to ever pass up for the price of the listing. Here's what I ended up with, the plate is going into the personal collection as it's definitely the first time I've managed to find a piece tied to an embassy and the state department. I hope you enjoy the pieces:

Nice! I see bits of Peruvian work but never Guatemalan of any sort. And with an embassy engraving? Pretty sweet.

You probably have, but it is usually listed as Mexican or Peruvian etc.
Check any openwork silver items with either quetzal birds (very long tail feathers) or Mayan motifs, those are usually Guatemalan. Often just marked 900, and often with gold overlay like many Peruvian pieces.

Well, the marks for the bowl were very obvious to me in the listing (although they were faint if you don't spend all your time hunting for the word sterling). I could see marks on the plate but couldn't make them out; I didn't need to figure it out to make the purchase. The pair was $10 total and I knew just the bowl would make it worth my time. :)
