Sort of Schafer and Vater-like, although I don't think from them at first glance.

The numbers on the base remind me of how antique pieces were sometimes marked. Maybe someone else will have thoughts.

 

He's Catalan with that hat on him. It's a barretina.

I suspect he is one of the myriad designs sold at Navidad to go with cribs.

 

I would have bought it, too. It's a great find. According to this site, it's a Shafer and Vater 19th century Black baby in an egg. Very collectible!

But creepy fascinates people, otherwise we wouldn't have horror movies.

A friend of mine’s very old manor house is being used to film a horror movie at the moment!. Watching how they set up some of the stunts and effects is interesting so it will be fascinating to watch the film. One part of the film involves all the apples falling from the tree at the same time, as it’s the wrong time of year (obviously!) all the apples are false ones magnetised onto the tree, they press a button and they all fall down . They were trying to get it to work and only a few would fall at a time.

Well, look at you!! You did not realize how smart you really are at this stuff.

 

OTOH this is Black Americana or at least a Black character, and those are supremely iffy right now. It's so old it might be OK, but I'd list it with fingers crossed.
