Hi, The bottom photo bottom looks like a piece of railroad track. I have a piece about seven inches long that I used a paperweight. greg
Gold/silversmiths use a variety of anvils... 4X4 and 6X6 inch polished steel bench anvils, bench pin anvil, stake anvil and a 200 pound anvil for large work. The anvil in the top photo looks to have a rough surface and would not be good for non ferrous metal work.
My Dad managed a 40mm plant for the Navy during WWII that ran 24/7.They would sometimes collect the scraps and make anvils When the plant was finally closed down, a number of the men gifted him their anvils with their names or initials on them. He kept most of them on his desk for years. Patd
I thought this looked really smooth and polished compared to the others. That's why I thought possibly jewelry.
If it were polished it would look like a mirror, there is something on the large flat toward the horn possibly a smear or scrape.
@springfld.arsenal I've had two of my dad's anvils and a couple small grease pumps in my car for over 10 years... I JUST can't get rid of them I like the first guy, on the plinth(?)
Pretty sure the wife here carries a full-size anvil in her purse... somehow a couple of them and a few bowling balls always seem to materialize in our backpacks when we go mountain-hiking...
Nice stuff springfld.arsenal. My dad has a couple anvils on the bench in his shop. One of them though, I don't know how he got it up there, but at least I'll have gravity on my side when the time comes to get it out of the house!
Correction:two old VISES and a couple of grease PUMPS. I've had lots of other crazy (Useful! Valuable!) things in my car, but can you imagine two full-sized anvils in your car?? Lol
