    Hi,
I received several pieces of what looks like turquoise, jade, amber and jadeite, are my guess, from my late mother in law's collection. But I don't really know what they are or if they are fake.
Sorry if the pics arent the best, I really tried with my old dumb phone.
    Thank you for any help. 20181022_104257.jpeg 20181022_104349.jpg 20181022_104544.jpg 20181022_104257.jpeg 20181022_104349.jpg 20181022_104544.jpg 20181022_104825.jpg 20181022_105031.jpg 20181022_104835.jpeg 20181022_105410.jpeg 20181022_105422.jpg

My impression is that they are all what they appear to be, plus the carnelian cabochon on the one turquoise pendant. Others will chime in with opinions that may differ.

Looks like it to me too. The turquoise is either old or someone with a penchant for hand lotion wore them a lot. Beyond that...dunno.

That's a novel setting on the amber piece - looks like the dome (or cabochon?) faces down?

    I like!

    Reversible?

Yes, I'm not an amber person, but this was so unusual ( and heavy) I liked it. My sister in law was very kind and generous.

    Beautiful pieces Rxwoman.
What looks like a carnelian is probably coral, the classic Southwest combination of turquoise and coral.
Those Chinese jades with the carved rings are worth taking a closer look at. They could be the 'gems' of this lot.
It is an amber pebble, those are washed up on Baltic beaches regularly. The style of the setting looks Polish to me, they make some beautiful Art Nouveau/Arts&Crafts style jewellery. Are there any marks?

I'd say kosher too. Nice bits. The carved jade brooch has some serious age: late 19th.

The jade brooch looks later to me, 1920s-30s.

I would take those chains off them. Jade is tough, but chains still might abrade, plus you don't want to risk breaking the ring. The one that doesn't have one now probably once did.

Agree. I'm sure there were many others, but as one example, Walter Lampl made jewellery inset with perforated carved jade pieces like this that I presume were imported for use as jewellery elements. (Just Google 'jewelry jade walter lampl' for examples.) I have one of their silver brooches with a carved amethyst that also looks Chinese.

Yes they were. Carved in China and exported in their thousands. Which doesn't mean they are just any old thing, they are beautiful.

(For some reason I always type craved instead of carved, my craving for jade maybe?)

I sometimes make what I call 'Freudian typos' like that. I'm convinced they are my brain's right hemisphere making itself heard, as they seem more often to involve what my left hand types. And of course muscle habit means whenever I mean 'came', I'll probably type 'cameo'.

You're right, the Walter Lampl jade pieces look very much like that brooche. I looked for marks. It only says ( very, very tiny) what looks like "sterling").
