Why did you have to post these two beauties? Now I want to start collecting Madame Alexander dolls.

These dolls like like they came from a 50s movie. Love the look of the faces.

This is likely due to pediophobia—a fear of dolls. They say about 10% of people have this. Likely caused by parents, brothers, or sisters scaring them with stories of dolls killing them in their sleep when they were young.

    *rant*

So many people on other servers have asked me to change my doll avatar, telling me that they have a fear of dolls. Many just block me without even telling me. Upon being asked to remove my doll picture, which has happened too many times to count, I simply ask why they are afraid of it, and ask them to seek help.

To ask me to take the picture down is unrealistic, IMO, so I refuse. Should we all have a say in which avatar pictures other people get to use? Imagine I then say that I don't like someone's avatar because it reminds me of a holiday I don't celebrate (example doesn't apply to me, but just imagine), should they have to take it down because I'm a snowflake that takes things out of hand and wants everyone to treat me like a little baby?

But fear of dolls I can understand if someone tells me this. What really bugs me is when adults say, "That doll is creepy." This can be extremely damaging when said to a young child, and could even be another cause of the fear. If an adult thinks a doll is creepy (could be any normal looking doll), that's an issue in their own mind that they should deal with. It's their problem, and it's not a realistic fear for an adult to have.

An example of a realistic fear is a fear of flying in planes, because there is always that very small chance you could crash. Fear of elevators is another; elevators can malfunction, but a doll will never come alive at night and kill you in your sleep. And what on earth is there to fear of a doll in the daytime on a virtual computer screen?

    *rant over*

I've had a few dolls pass through my hands over the years.

Kokeshi dolls have always been sellers for me:

This black doll was in very bad condition, but it sold and got shipped to a doll hospital. 12" tall.:

This Santa doll was made by Best Toys in Toronto and about 36" tall:

I was told this troll doll spent its life in a closet because the little girl it was given to was terrified of it. Made in Denmark in the 1960s. 10" tall. (It looks remarkably like someone I worked with.)

Can anyone tell me if this is an unmarked madame Alexander doll or just a no name copy cat? I do believe the outfit and wrist tag is authentic.. however, I’m not sure about the doll itself. It was listed as a 1930s madame Alexander little genius doll. Everything I saw doesn’t seem to look like this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I'm certainly not an expert but I agree that it doesn't look like a Little Genius:

You probably already checked THIS reference site... I don't see a doll like yours.

I have looked at this site and didn’t see the doll either.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

There were lots of baby dolls during the early 20th century that were unmarked, and almost unidentifiable. I do think that your doll has a more interesting face, with the pretty side-glancing eyes. I don't know how to help identify the doll, though. I think most Madame Alexander dolls were marked, except maybe not in the earlier times. And this doll's face doesn't look like the M.A. dolls I've seen.

The ones at the back left of the first picture with "bubble cut" hairstyles are older ones. That's about all I know.

And besides the height, have you checked the back of the doll (head and body) for marks?

    Any tags on the clothing?

I am about to check my MA book on Genius.

    Hi Bou!

Yes, I know Sindy is your love, but I quess I thought you had some knowledge on Barbie's......more than me I would expect.

I have bought and sold a few Barbie's, but I had to research them before I knew what I had.

Bubble cuts as Fig pointed out are the older ones, but I believe they have been "re-introduced". I think they are marked differently, but again, it would take research on my part to distinquish.

( I don't think Bubbles have been reproduced, they have some markings the same as the earlier ones but some are different, and I just get really confused )... Barbie is such a vast field I only know a teeny bit xx
