    Hey all! Let's hope you're not getting tired of all this. The living room is next on the list, but it's too big to do all at once. Here's an overall pic, but it doesn't get everything: 1.jpg
    So here goes: This first picture has a child's walnut chair ca. 1920 supporting several books, including 2 volumes of the privately printed history of the noted Chicago architectural firm of Graham Anderson Probst & White, only a couple of hundred printed way back when. There is also a marble-topped plant stand ca. 1900 with a pair of Deco art glass vases purchased by a relative on a trip to Italy in 1924. Above them is a beaded pull from Massachusetts ca. 1850. Amazing work! 2.jpg
    Next is a quarter-sawn 3-door oak bookcase from Kansas City ca. 1915. It supports Welch Gerster, Welch Cary, and Welch Baby Cary rosewood clocks ca 1879 and a lamp signed Raynaud 1926. Above them are three Vanity Fair caricatures ca. 1870 in 1930s frames.
    3.jpg
    This is a music stand with marquetry inlay, now a bookstand, attributed to Herter Brothers of New York, ca. 1875.
    4.jpg
    Speaking of Herter Brothers, here are a couple of armchairs attributed to them ca. 1870, probably part of a parlor set. The table is a turtle top tilting breakfast table from England also ca. 1870. It supports a slag glass lamp with a light up ("lighthouse") base ca. 1915- 20. The rug is about 100 years old and uses vegetable dye in the pattern.
    5.jpg
    On the right is an Eastlake walnut cylinder desk/bookcase ca. 1890. It's unusually narrow and fits into just about any corner. To the left is a walnut dog table (look on the stretcher) ca. 1855, made in Cincinnati. It supports a very early unmarked Wilkinson electric lamp ca. 1905, a bride's basket, and a recent bronze by Mark Hopkins featuring a jaguar in the jungle.
    6.jpg
    Lest I overwhelm you, this is the last photo for today. In front of the mantle is a Roseville planter and pedestal ca. 1940s. Planted in it is another cutting of a 200-year old Christmas Cactus. To it's left, barely visible, is a cast iron dog/nutcracker. Shielding the fireplace is an English fire screen featuring needlepoint and petite point framed in rosewood. Those are horse brasses ca. 1890 to the left of the fireplace marble.
    Hanging over the fireplace is a verdure canvas picture from England in its original frame ca. 1680. Left to right on the mantle is a blue crinkle glass vase from Italy, a rosewood Welch Cary clock ca. 1879, a peg lamp from France ca. 1880, a rose claret jug dated 1911, a Meissen mourning bust ca. 1840, a Campbell's Kids iron bank ca. 1920, another Meissen bust ca. 1840, a matching rose claret jug, an American peg lamp ca. 1890, and a Seth Thomas mantle clock with rosewood veneer bought in 1880. 7.jpg

    Thanks @Bakersgma ! Some of it represents the work of generations, and other parts of it are just me and the Ms.

    I'm in love with the music stand & the cats ask politely if they can have the tassel on the key of the cylinder desk?

    Another virtual exploration of your home. Charming. I want all the bookcases. The only thing I have that is similar is a tassel on my dresser and I doubt it is all that old.
    You and the Mrs. have definitely created an environment that is graceful, peaceful and has a lovely warmth to it.

    I love the 3-door bookcase from Kansas City.
    I'd love to get a close up of the books in it.

    Just curious, how many of the clocks are actually working? :happy::happy:

    I just imagine at noon & midnight it could get a little loud in the house. ;) :playful::playful: :kiss:

    @bercrystal : All of the clocks in the house work, but not simultaneously. Of the clocks in this thread, only the Welch Cary is working at the moment. Next week it could be a different one. :)

    @Bookahtoo : Stay tuned....

    Youve somehow made your home gorgeous yet very accessible and welcoming. Many homes decorated like this end up looking like museums ,you're afraid to even sit down .But yours says "Come in,enjoy a cup of tea and some cookies and a lovely chat" And so beautifully clean to boot !

    Beautiful .. What is it like living in a museum? Thanks for giving us the tour!

    About the only thing of any real meaning in my living room is an old painting of my Great Great Grandfather.

    It's a privilege and joy to live among things you love. It's surprisingly comfortable, but I'm a pretty visual guy, so that's where my happiness lies.

    Your Great Great Grandfather must have been very interesting, if his pipe and clothing are any indication. Love that painting!

    @Bookahtoo and @ola402 :

    Here's a closer look at the books in the 1915 oak bookcase. The first picture has art, architecture, history, culture, literature.
    1.jpg
    The next bay has architecture, urban history, cultural history, art, and New York architecture.
    2.jpg
    The last bay is mostly the architecture of Chicago and Detroit (where I do a lot of work) and furniture history.
