    Good evening everyone,

So I gambled on this piece which finally arrived in the mail today, I'm hoping for some assistance with the marks. Any thoughts would be great, I can always scrape/acid test it but figured I would see if someone could identify first:

Any teapot with ivory insulators is a keeper regardless, but I agree, the 12 looks like a loth mark like Cxgirl posted

Believe I might see a '12' as well, under an 'A.N' - would think mid 19th century German, with that floral motif, the missing lid may have had a figural blossom finial. Hard to track down a maker without a town mark, and don't know if he used an initial mark, but a possibility is August Niemeyer of Braunschweig - this teapot has the type finial mentioned:

Thank you @DragonflyWink, @Generic_Lad and @cxgirl ! I felt it definitely looked like a 12 but I didn't want to say that for fear that I would bias the opinion of others. The marks are definitely not the best to read, but I think "AN" "12" looks correct to me. And thank you Cheryl for trying to locate a maker, I didn't have any luck yet but I was more concerned with the notion that what I bought wasn't trash. I paid $50 total and only bought it off my intuition of how the metal looked (no photos of the bottom until I got it) so I'm very happy with my guess.

I don't know jack about German silver really, but could see the AN and the 12. The toolwork looks like silver to me too even if I can't read the marks.

For what it’s worth my first thought was a Loth mark as well. The close up photos look a little off for silver for some reason but hopefully it’s just in my head.

I know what you mean with the look, it looks better in person. There’s polish in the creases and the tone looks a little funny due to the lighting in the room but I see what you are seeing in the photos

DizzyDaff Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.

Really lovely teapot @MrNate - and great find! - I wonder what the chances are of finding a lid which fits?

That’s an interesting idea I hadn’t thought of. I think realistically it’s destined for the scrap pile without a lid, but it won’t hurt to try to look for one that fits
