Is this a Ormolu Filligree perfume bottle? I know it's filligree but can I put Ormolu in title when selling it?
I thought ormolu was a old, high end bottle but this one's metal can be bent with a little pressure - is it a knock off?
    It's pretty & big (9.5"T x 5"D x 2"w), but when a foot bent a little I thought it might be pot metal and a copy/not valuable?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I think ormolu is when high carat gold is applied to bronze so I don’t think your perfume bottle is this. There seems to be different definitions but on bronze is what I understood to be accurate. Wait for others, pretty bottle though.

This type of bottle was hugely popular during the 60s & 70s. As you can see in the link posted by @Houseful there was all manner of matching items that you could buy for your bathroom vanity. The 2 biggest makers of this type of item were Stylebuilt & Matson.

Keywords to search for are ormolu, filigree, or Hollywood Regency. The pieces are sometimes marked in obscure places so you may want to see if you can find anything on the metal portion.

I see lots of cherubs but I have never seen the figure inside like the one in your bottle. Maybe @Bronwen can help out with who it might be trying to represent.

It's a goddess in her car (chariot). There's not much to ID her. My gut says she's more Ceres/Demeter than anyone else, but whether the artist has anyone specific in mind...

Ormolu is a particular way of gilding bronze that has been illegal for a very long time now. This will not be ormolu.

See, I'd never call that filigree, either.

I wonder if it was part of a dresser set with other matching items, like a casket for jewelry and a lipstick holder?

Thanks for the information on ormolu.

It may not be accurate but the words ormolu & filigree are what the collectors search for when looking for these items. If you want your items to be found then you have to use the words they use in their search.

Cleopatra's Boudoir is not a company that produces perfume bottles. She simply hosts this site about perfume bottles on the internet.

I think the C on the glass is more or less a monogram for the original owner.

As I said earlier & as is shown on the internet site there is all manner of this type item that could be purchased. For example one of Matson's big lines was a Dogwood with a bird. You could get perfume bottles, vanity mirrors in multiple sizes, trinket or powder jars, & jewelry caskets in multiple sizes. In fact, I have a large 6" Matson jewelry casket in the Dogwood line that I got at the auction a few weeks back. I finally got it cleaned up last night & was very pleased to see that it is in wonderful condition. It was so dirty that there was some doubt until last night.:happy:

I am glad @Houseful mention Guildcrest because I forgot about that one.

Do you think this is gilded brass like most I see say - or is it just pot metal? (which it looks like if you look at bottom of feet in last photo?

Neither would I. Filigree is handmade from very thin wire.

I agree totally with our Peggy. This is the way the item will be found. I have sold a few lipstick holders or jewelry caskets and this is the way to grab eye balls.

I had one of these last year I think.. Mine may have been a Matson. Im sorry, just cannot remember. If you are selling you may try Hollywood Regency as a key word. I might add Stylebuilt is another company..
