Oh Dear! Sotheby's got tagged selling fake art & are not happy campers. https://patch.com/new-york/upper-ea...-duped-sothebys-selling-fake-art-suit-alleges
No, IF they give Sotheby's back the money they stole from them, if they don't give it back probably yes, incarceration is most likely in their future.
If you remember, the Keno brothers got tagged in a rather massive fraud scam a few years ago, they paid the money back to the auction houses and all was forgiven, legally speaking.
Florida does seem to harbor unsavory characters .Im not surprised they are based in Miami,a cesspool of corruption !
Well, they owe Sotheby's $7.1M and only have another 3 weeks to steal it from someone else. That might not be enough time. They likely already spent that money and can't return it. I hope they go to prison even if they manage to pay the money back. They won't suddenly become honest unless they have a strong reason to.
The money is likely hidden in Belize. Read a long story about the Pandora Papers in the WaPo this afternoon. Grrrr! Send them all to jail.
LOL, Yeah, that's what should happen but in the arts & antiques world, that's not usually what happens. The crooks pay back the money they stole from the victim ( in this case Sotheby) and criminal charges are rarely filed. Guesses the victims just want the whole thing to GO AWAY after they are made whole again. This does not help the market generally though, it gives the impression the entire arts/antiques market is an inside game that is totally corrupt. That perception is not without merit.
The Dutch minister of finance, who 'has been tackling tax dodging', was one of them. The word hypocrisy springs to mind.... https://www.politico.eu/article/pan...e-hoekstra-john-dalli-dominique-strauss-kahn/
Yes, it's like a few years ago here in Massachusetts when they passed a tax on alcohol (previously untaxed). One of the legislators who voted for the tax was caught buying liquor over the state line in New Hampshire where it is not taxed!
The plot thickens, the Pandora Papers also reveal shady dealings that affect the art world and museum collections: https://news.artnet.com/art-world/p... 6 AM&utm_term=EUR Daily Newsletter [MORNING]
