Certain types of vintage desks are actually quite popular these days, with many people working from home. But they need to work well with computers and ergonomic chairs, which this one would not. MCM and Art Deco writing desks sell pretty well.

A crying shame! Please don't let me see beautiful things if they're bonfire bound.
Hope the van man saved it.

They tried to market slant fronts that way a few years back, obviously, it didn't work out.

Exactly, perhaps slant fronts will find a place in the future but at the moment it's tough sledding in the marketplace.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I've seen individuals use a variety of ways, not always the same for each person.

Oh, I didn't realize it was slanting. Thought it would be horizontal. In that case, never mind!

The desk form is called a "slant front" because the fallboard slants inward at the top when closed, the slanted fallboard does open into a horizontal position.:)

In a case like this where you don’t want to fill your garage again I would at least put in there and then post it for $20 locally. Would sell quick at that price I’d think and save it from the dump. You make a quick free lunch. Glad someone got it.

Why do people throw perfectly good antiques out?
At least ask around and find someone who will take it, even to resell.
I would have taken it, too. It might be good for storage in the bedroom or even the kitchen. Think outside the box!

I went on a house call last week, the mother of 2 adult sons passed away. They wanted to get a dumpster and just make it all go away, they couldn't deal with any of it. Their female cousins said NO!!!!!!! We will have a yard sale, and they invited me to preview and to give them advice :)

I spent $75, my friend, who also came, spent $40. I went through all the jewelry, mostly recent costume (not for me), and I found a lot of sterling which I marked separately for them. I went through the whole place and told them to up the prices on over 50% of it, they had a lot way to low even for an yard sale. I'm waiting to hear back from them on how the sale went.

More than once, while sitting at my jewelry and glass booth at the local flea market, shoppers have commented on how it looks like the jewelry they threw out when their mother died

I'm incredibly pleased when something can be reused. One less thing for the trash heap, one more way to help the environment.

I agree. I hate to throw anything out, even if you can take something apart and use the pieces.

Same here. Keep the useful bits out of the landfill if possible. When I was at that rummage sale they had a junk bin - everything was free. My freebies were a pair of crazy 80s costume earrings, a gold-filled (so marked) watch chain, and some small bits. Why those were in the junk bin when legit junk was for sale... no idea.

    Thanks @Ghopper1924. They wante

When my parents moved from a 6 bedroom house to a 1 bedroom apartment in independent living, my family wanted to toss all the photos my father saved. I took them all and 6 months later made 9 piles (I am 1 of 9 children). I mailed off photos to each sibling and they were all very happy to have them at that point :)
