Bought this lovely cup today. The style made me think of Worcester, but the mark is like a Chelsea Derby, or a Dresden mark - but not quite.
Does anyone know whose mark it is? thanks in advance 244215052_390399749238887_5549292399841598231_n.jpg 244578772_262715729091690_1776122111027456743_n.jpg 244432146_366194661871540_444114460523146308_n.jpg 243896040_327118622310293_6647300364293324658_n.jpg 244423198_3087483798161546_3816101792902808199_n.jpg 244445951_542912210338796_6242969282319005218_n.jpg

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I don't know, but to me it looks like a combined script F/D.......NICE cup!!!

Thanks Aquitaine! Yes, I had thought it looked like an F & D as well, but hadn't come up with anything. Coalport did a similar mark, but again not quite the same.

It looks like you possibly have a mark beneath those initials as well as some impressed or incised marks of some sort.

I can't get any detail out of the faded blue line beneath the initials however I wonder if it's something like a KPM scepter or something. Perhaps if you shine light through the cup the line will be more clear (or not).

Hi Say_it_slowly, thanks for that. No incised mark. The faded blue line goes right through the initials. To the naked eye it looks like a smudge. Not much better through a magnifying glass, though it definitely looks like a line. The base is too think for either white or purple light to shine through.

The places that look incised to me are here. In hand they may not actually be.

OMG your eyesight is so much better than mine! I thought the one closest to the mark was a small hair - looks like another D but very round/straight. The other is a V by the looks. And you're right - it does look rather like the KPM sceptre. thanks so much

This is the Coalport mark that looks similar, and the description sounds about right. I guess the hand painted mark could vary? Although looking again, it's not a "C" on mine. :-(

Just pondering, the shape does seem consistent with KPM Neuosier cups so I wonder if the initials are from someone who painted the decoration rather than the maker. No idea.

I dont see any Chelsea-Derby or Dresden marks that look similar in the data base I am subscribing to. Can you point to some examples just to enlighten me? Thanks.

Hi Sunday Silence - there are so many marks for these two, but these are the ones I thought similar - top right on Wiki & top left on the Derby marks page. Definitely not the same but similar style I thought

Hi Say_it_Slowly, not familiar with KPM, I'll have a look, but yes, quite possible. I bought it from an antique shop and they didn't know. thanks

Oh yes, thank you for that. I found also found some some similarly self patterned but with much more painting and with gilding.
