What is the history of this mask? Can anybody read Japanese that is on the one label? There is another label that says WW1 Japanese Mask but can't make out what it says in front of that. I have only seen the one on iCollector. And there wasn't much info there. So, any info on this is greatly appreciated.

I think you’ll see the English tag says “114 Japanese Wood Mask TSY”. This is not correct though, mask is not carved from wood but a reproduction in plaster of an old wood mask. These plaster masks often have similar Japanese written labels inside, I always assume the name of the mask and or original maker who is being reproduced. These plaster masks were made for decoration, never meant to be worn, many homes had them on the wall so they are fairly common.

There is a virtually identical plaster mask for sale on eBay, shipped from japan. You’ll see the Japanese writing is also virtually identical, perhaps identical, to the label on yours. You could ask the seller to translate for you. If you are successful please post their response here. https://www.ebay.com/itm/165412612791
