    Another interesting article. Right after WWI, the US army redesigned the mount for that gun. Two of this improved design were deployed to the Panama Canal Zone. They could be moved by rail to the Atlantic or Pacific side as needed. Two others were deployed to Los Angeles.

    You had me at Railway. My late dad, had he been handy, would have been all over that project. He was a rail nut and an engineer and moving big heavy stuff on rails was FUN.(LOL)

    No, they were the M1920 14" railway guns.

    My Grandpa also would've loved this article.He was the lead machinist in the 30's thru the late 50's for the NWPRR Railroad that ran from Eureka down to the Bay Area.He also manned the 'Big Hook'- the 250-ton Industrial Brownhoist wrecking crane.When there was a track washout along the Eel or Russian River and a locomotive or rolling stack was lost,he was sent to the site for repairs (or more often) recovery/salvage.He loved and lived big rolling stock for most of his life.
