Oh how pretty ! Looks like maybe a music stand ? Maybe 1870s-80s. Id guess walnut but I am not the best at woods. Hang in for the furniture gurus.

It looks like a hanging cabinet with shelves on the side for pretty porcelain. Is there a possiblity to hang it?

A Beautiful Cabinet who I'm going to tag @Ghopper1924 for.....kind of looks like it's in his vintage category, and it's a decent size in wonderful condition!! Hoping he's around to help you!! Others should be around with their input as well!! I'd find a place for that in a heartbeat!! But then I love to mix my antiques up!!:happy::):)

Greetings, Ingmar! Where did you find this beauty? I agree with Any Jewelry that it looks like it should hang on a wall. Or sit on top of another related piece, not on the floor.

Not knowing anything about them I can’t imagine it not being worth a couple hundred minimum and potentially a good bit more. I wouldn’t take less than that anyways.

Welkom bij het forum Ingmar. Mooi kastje heb je daar.
It could be Dutch.;) The elaborate 'crown' with two 'urns' on either side, and the combination of woods are used a lot in Dutch furniture. Elaborate carving on doors as well.

The thing is 48" high. Sounds a bit much to be hanging on a wall, or even sitting on top of something else - unless the space is palatial.

But what do you make of the lack of space between the floor and the first attached shelf?

There's three options: It was made for hanging, which would be the most likely by the size and general look; as suggested it might have sat on top of something else (in which case its having feet is odd, but those could have been added); or, and here's the good one, it might have belonged in a dedicated, elevated architectural feature. I think late Victorian is safe, which is the time hanging cabinets became fashionable, unless it's a revival. Can't tell the wood, but would guess a soft-enough hard wood like walnut.

I just noticed that the thingy (can't think of the name) on top is at the front of the piece, not the back. That does support the idea it was meant to be hanging, as it really limits the use of the top as a floor standing unit. But that's one big sucker to be hanging on a wall. I just checked my kitchen cupboards, and they 're only 32" high.

Do think a hanging cabinet. Agree with walnut. Circa 1875. Could very well be Dutch. Otherwise, maybe Belgium or Germany.

In Dutch it is called a 'kroon', which translates as 'crown'. That is why I called it a crown before.
It is a typical feature of many Dutch cabinets and is usually accompanied by those small urn shapes on either side.

Walnut Renaissance Revival with ebonized highlights, ca. 1865-80, from northwest Europe, i.e. Netherlands, France, or Belgium. The carving on the door is a bit more conservative with Rococo Revival elements. No reason to think that the feet aren't original.

I'd say it functions as a shelf unit/etagere combo. My feeling is that it was designed to sit at eye level on top of something else, like a table top or bookshelf. An unusual and very handsome piece!

Thanks to everyone who helped so far. It's at my grandma's house who moved out so I need to sell it. Should I just put it up for bidding on ebay or something. Or is it better to have a price tag on it.
