Featured Unmarked Yellow Ware Mug; Holds 15 oz: Where an' When, Please?

One of my favorite mugs but, aside from the seller's description as yellow ware, I'm wholly ignorant about this delight. I believe it's American, and from the eastern side of the country (Pennsylvania?)...and perhaps late 19th C. It is so attractive to me because it's simple, sturdy (I do treat it with respect, if not reverence) and of perfect capacity for my morning Mocha.

4" at the lip, an' again at the foot; 3 3/4" high. 406 grams, 14 1/3 oz. Hand thrown, fairly thin-walled; the grip appears to have been passed through a ribbon machine, a nice subtle touch. Not a mark on it to indicate the maker's pride in its creation...always a puzzle to me.

Whatever y'all can add (or subtract), I'll be very much obliged to receive.

Not sure I would drink out of it every day, unless you test for lead first.

 

This info is from the book Collector's Guide to Yellow Ware by McAllister and Michel.

It doesn't have your exact mug or maker on these but the mugs in the photo say American 1880-1920.

The other photos are different forms but with the same type stripe. They mention NY and Ohio as places they're from as well as noting that Pfaltzgraff made a line of rust brown and white banded crocks in the 1920s-30s. I'd ignore the values given.

 

Hello again, Jeff...I don't use it daily, but on reasonable occasion. I haven't tested it, and suppose I should. I'll be 82 soon, and something else will harvest me before lead does...I hope. Thanks!

 

Thanks, sis...I note that white is a significant color on all these, and mine has it as well...I'll pursue Pfaltzgraff for their take on this mug, if any.

 

Perhaps the pattern an' number of the bands are all the identification the maker used in production. During their time, that may have been sufficient to know who made them, an' where.
