Featured Native American pottery

    it looks like it wants to be southwest Pueblo pottery.....but it's pretty unrefined...so I'd think it's a recent work......what ever it is.

    No, I don't believe it is a genuine Pueblo piece, for a combination of reasons. The basic shape is poorly made, lop sided, and with a lumpy surface. The decoration is extremely busy, with motifs that are not typical for Pueblo pottery. Although it is difficult to be sure based on photographs, the orange sections at the top and base look more like paint rather than the traditional clay slip (but acrylic paints have been used on some modern Pueblo pottery). It looks recent enough that if it was made by a Pueblo potter I would expect it to be signed, as that conveys significant value. But perhaps they did not want to take credit for it. ;)
