Frame and subject matter looks like the 70's. Very finely painted watercolor portrait. For some reason this looks really familiar - like pop art? Signature is really difficult. IMG_7208.jpg IMG_7209.JPG IMG_7210.JPG IMG_7211.JPG IMG_7212.jpg IMG_7213.jpg watercolor portrait.jpg

That’s cool. Makes me smile. He does somehow look familiar. Personally I would have guessed a bit older than the 70’s (but don’t ask me why)

Flat top, thin belt... I'd think 1950s/early 1960s. (If 1970s, he'd have longer pointed collar, wider belt.) Proud post-World War II husband and home owner.

I removed the back; it is on board. Was hoping for another signature. Sigh. IMG_7279.jpg IMG_7280.jpg IMG_7281.jpg

It's very illustrative and almost a caricature. I'd think the work of a commercial artist, rather than fine. Someone highly trained with a very confident hand. Does the background landscape look like the area where you found it? May be a local sitter, home.

Signature looks like Jake to me.

I vote illustration too. It has a slightly cartoonish look. I like it though .

I like it also. He does look familiar. Sort of looks like he is wearing some type of uniform. Possibly forest ranger or park ranger? Idk

The first thing I thought was it looked like the dad from "My 3 Sons" the tv show.

The trees make me think of Pacific northwest though we do have pines here in Georgia.

Not PNW. Those are Southern Pines. Reminds me of the area in Eastern North Carolina where my parents built their dream home. The area had been used by Weyrhauser (admittedly a northwest company but I can't spell it right ) as a "tree farm" with lots of mature native trees like these.

Professional illustrator-sure hand, quick, nice work. His jacket looks post WWII-looks like a US A-2 leather jacket w/o the epaulets.MCM Nerd w/ an 'Indy' jacket, has an earnest intellectual look.Either a presentation piece or a commissioned piece for publication. As far as an ID on this chap, you might have a shot (or not) w/ homeland security NSA facial recognition software. Is it possibly a painting of a Local recent ancestor-you could post it on some local history sites/town historical society.Good hunt, good luck.

Don't think safari pockets regulation. But do think that someone who wore this in wartime would be comfortable with that in peace.

Won't be surprised if it wasn't the architect of the home behind him done by one of his staff. Has the look of a professional, rather than personal, portrait.

And love the artist's masterful use of a limited palette. For instance, look at the economy he used in creating windows and bushes. Both slightly abstracted. No wasted effort.

Additionally, RE: Age of the work ... Devoe & Raynolds (the board used) sold in 1964 to Celanese so unless they continued to use "Devoe & Raynolds" on the products or someone painted on an old board, it would suggest those saying 50's early 60's are indeed correct.

Lots of A-2 civilian 'knockoffs' after the war that didn't adhere to military specs.Think of leather 'Ricky' or Ike Jackets but private, not GI issue.
Architect sound logical. The pines look more southern than PNW to me-Georgia,Alabama Aerospace Engineer ? (OK,now I've gone full-fantasy,it it's fun to imagine a life for this guy).
Neece's detective work excellent (more reliable).

Looks like it could be Marshall Thompson from Doctari tv series (1966-69).

WOW! Corduroy versus leather. So similar!
