I got this item that I think is either an ashtray (might be too big) or just a decorative dish for a side table. It says on the back "Also Vent Top Before Figurine is Mounted". Then there is an arrow and the word VENT pointing off to a hole in the side.

Eh?? What is this? Why would it be done? Never seen a piece of pottery with instructions on the bottom.

It's a cool piece. Any info is appreciated. Measures 8 1/2" by 7".

A hobbyist piece? I can't think of any other reason to have such directions "in the mold."

    Cute, though.

Looks like a 'vide-poche', literally 'empty pocket'. It would sit on a hall table, and you'd put your keys and other contents of your pockets on it when you came home.
I like the instructions, maybe you should also vent your frustrations in the hallway before joining the rest of the family.

Empty pocket -- I've never heard that expression before but it's very appropriate for this pony dish. It would be about the right size for the contents of a pocket and would keep the pocket mess under control. Since I didn't know much about it, I took it to my space at the antq mall earlier today. If it doesn't sell there, I'll put it on ebay as a "vide-poche". I would really like to use that term, how cool would that be? But it will likely sell this weekend. Who doesn't like a nice pony?

It is a nice piece. I like the glaze. I too want to use "vide-poche". Of course I had to check out the pronunciation first! I see some on Etsy are using it.

For some reason I only got the alert for this thread on Sunday. I can't remember all threads I helped with, and when. And I don't check if the alert appears on the right date. I can't imagine anyone else does either.;)

While I don't know why this post appeared here, I do know that it reappeared because someone else posted a dish just like this one with the exception of the figure. Theirs is a nude while this one obviously is a pony. Someone in the other post linked to this thread, and bam, it received responses as well.
