    Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knows about this statue/has seen it before?

It's a statue of a Shell/Esso (on lapel) man, very heavy. My father obtained it around 40 years ago.

The Esso brand name was replaced by that of Exxon in 1973 so prior to that date.

The S on his chest does not stand for Shell, but rather for the "Standard" of Standard Oil. Shell is not related to Esso, Exxon or Standard Oil.

In most of the world, the Esso brand and the Mobil brand are the primary brand names of ExxonMobil, with the Exxon brand name in use only in the United States

Esso and Shell are still brand names over here, the OP is posting from the UK

Shell still exists here too, Davey.

My son works in the oil industry, every time they shut a rig down for major maintenance they get awarded things.
Jackets, boots, trophy's maybe this is a rig workers award from a particular company, my son gets stuff from Petrotec, BP etc.

Looks like a rig worker to me too. Forty years or a bit more would be at the kickoff of North Sea oil, so I suspect it relates to that.

Esso on the lapel, indeed, I suspect the big S is a nod to Superman.
