For a horse possibly? A bit worse for the wear, but I think someone could do something with this decoratively possibly. 21 inches long, missing something at the end. Also, last pic, so odd, 2 of the brass pieces have this tiny little silver diamond shape. Deliberate?

A few keywords for this item much appreciated. Thanks!

Might be a girth (although I don't think it would be the right place) or some sort of bridle/harness strap. Perhaps something was originally mounted over those silver shapes.

The leash ring might have come away.
I've got a 17 inch neck and Maximus's on the left was far greater than mine.

I have a horse but I will say I'm most familiar with English tack. I don't think your piece could be a brow band, partly because of the size and partly because of the fittings. Brow bands usually have a loop at each end so it can be slipped onto the bridle.

For the same reason I'm wondering if it could be a dog collar or not. Usually a dog collar has a buckle on one end and many holes on the other just like a belt.

Sorry, not much help I know.

Thanks, SIS. Ruling out brow band.

This doesn't have holes on the end for adjustment. Just a single hole that is clearly missing some hardware. So kind of a fixed size.

Also the backing has these brass rivet or staple like things that hold the large brass features. I am a cat person... is it possible a dog collar would have these large brass features? In a million years I would not have thought this was a dog collar, but maybe it is. I was thinking more like something decorative off of a vintage sleigh or some horse costume. I'm only in it for $1, but had a great sale of a vintage leather belt with bells that reminded me a bit of this construction. But could be totally off.

The underside of the end without the buckle.

Will it actually buckle? The leather looks too wide to slip through that buckle.

I want it to be gypsy related:D not sure what it is.

SIS, you are correct. That end is too wide to fit in. Must be missing some attachment or another.

Would love it to be gypsy related!

Thinking no matter what it is, it would make a cool add-on for some creative person making a holiday display of sorts (maybe outside by a door) with antique sleigh bells, etc. Of course if it is a dog collar that would be humiliating.

I'm with SIS, I would expect a dog collar would have the extra holes on the one end.
Very cool piece what ever it will be Lucille:)

    I believe it's called a martingale.

It's nothing like my horse martingale but that doesn't mean it might not be from something different by that name.
