Not sure what to do about this piece.

I helped cleaned out the estate it was pulled out of and bought it at auction. It looked like the people were using it to clean and repair jewelry on.
It's absorbed all kinds of oils.

I love the green and the wood stain peeking through, but man, those oil marks :sour:

I'm curious as to the era of it.
It has slotted screws, the drawers have large dovetails in front and back, chamfered edges on the bottom, but the stamped letters and numbers look more modern.
    Any ideas?

I need surface space in my booth, so Im about to toss it in there, but I'm at a total loss for a price due to oil marks.
    Any suggestions?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Well, except for the green paint, the fancy edges around the top and the top of the legs and the different drawer pulls, it looks pretty much like the one I'm sitting at!!! Mine's just all the same color mahogany stain and not an antique...I believe it came with a house my parents bought in the 80's....owners just left it there. Mine seems to be 1980's Chippendale style writing desk....one site says $280. and "Chairish" has one for sale for $1779.!! Go figure!!! This is like mine:

All I saw was Kitty Cat. :cat::cat::cat::cat: Looks like it might be mahogany under the green paint. If you're lucky the green uck preserved the wood. I'd strip it, and redo with an oil stain if you have to.

A furry kitteeee! I wanna give kitty a big squishy hug!

Also, I'd strip that green. You will get more for it.

Around here you would get more as is! they are still into "Shabby Chic". Might try washing the top with dawn dish soap and see if it does anything to the oil.

You might even match the paint and paint over just the stained top

But don't let Kitty walk in it unless you want pawprints on something!

Very nice and all, but a site table not a desk. Unless kitty is from Land of the Giants.

He won't do any more damage to it that what's already there ;)

    What is a site table?
And Ritz is actually a fairly large cat, I get comments on his size all the time :joyful:, but I guess you're right, it's not quite as large as a true desk

I went ahead and took it to my booth because I needed surface area. I got a couple complements on it carrying it in, so maybe someone will love it as is :woot:

I believe it is actually a "writing table", of course it can be used for whatever you like. It appears to be a made in the Louis XV style, borrowing some motif from later Louis XVI. It is a later re-make or homage - no antique. But cool to have nonetheless. Thanks for sharing. I like it.
