I found a bunch of mint condition Beatles albums + John Lennon, Ringo, and Lennon & Yoko Plastic Ono Band albums - all mint with inserts - at a thrift yesterday (I should have stayed because as I was checking out a guy came with a stack including David Bowie albums - also mint! So maybe an ugly divorce & wife donated hubby's album collection - they seem to be coming out in alphabetical order)
My question is I got a Beatles Yesterday & Today album but the album that I think is a 2nd state (because I can see & feel the edges of the label they pasted on album), but mine has a Gold Record Award stamp on the cover?
Did they make a reissue with a sticker pasted on/covering the front of the album? (Look at 2nd & 3rd photo - you can see (and feel the edge) of the sticker + see there is a dark square under the sticker on the album cover - especially in 3rd photo/bottom of cover?)
    Thank you!

Any-Fine score ! Follow Davey's advice & should also find about 2 million websites covering pasted & peeled 'Butcher Albums',could net you $300 to a grand (depending on the current $tate of Beatlemania). Vinyl biggie mate.

I saw that - it's the final version & another said if it has the gold record seal there's nothing under it - but mine is a pasted on label/cover and I can see a black square under it looking at it in lower left section - did they paste leftover covers on until they ran out (even after the butcher cover had run out?)? If not why is this a pasted on cover instead of a printed cover?
That's what I'm hoping to find out.

At that time, it would not have taken long for the album to achieve gold record status, especially with the controversy over the cover. I remember the ruckus and, that when I went to look for the album, the steamer trunk version was the only one available. That butcher album got recalled in a hurry. It's possible that the gold record certification might have been added to the paste-over, but I certainly don't know enough to say.

That would make for nice bidding war on eBay!

If you can positively ascertain that the butcher cover is under there.

You don't know any X-ray technicians, do you?

They look at paintings that way. I remember an episode of Fake or Fortune where they used x-ray to look under a paper label on a frame.

I'd touch base with some advanced Beatle collectors re the Xray Test. I'd also guess there's some collectors who just specialize in Butcher Covers-they'd definitely know.I wouldn't want gamble a few hundred or more on an Xray if there's another way to positively tell...unless you could Medicare to pay for it ! Beatlemania-who knew it'd last this long ? Rock-on J !

If going that way, you do want to find someone to do it on the sly.

This is NOT a butcher cover! Anyone who bids on it thinking it is will be sorely disappointed.

Jeff-I think Journey was just trying to get some input, don't think he has much expertise,he needs a pro to evaluate (not sure he's at the selling stage yet).

There is no need. This is not a butcher cover - it is later. Read MOS’s link - it is all there (slicks).

I did read it but I also know it's a pasted label and there is a darker color under it.
And I didn't say it was a butcher album - I came asking if it Could be with the gold record award?
