    Greetings!

New collector. I bought a bowl and I'm thinking that it is Dugan based upon what I've found, but I'm not sure.

It's a marigold iridescent bowl that definitely has the double stem rose pattern. thumbnail.jpg thumbnail (1).jpg The base is domed and the same color as the bowl (I've seen some pictures online where the base is clear glass)

    this site initially says Dugan:

But i noticed there is also a link on that page that takes you to this; which says it's a Fenton patern:

This site seems to describe this as a modern piece, but then I've read on various sites that the bowl could be older....very confusing for a new collector.

I would assume from Doty's reference that the matter of who made this pattern may be in some dispute. My Dugan/Diamond book (Heacock, Measell, Wiggins) identifies this as a Dugan pattern partly based on the fact that examples are found in Peach Opal. Dugan is believed to be the primary manufacturer of Peach Opal. The records for Dugan's early carnival glass production are incomplete so I'm not sure the matter can be settled definitively. It is notable that none of my Fenton books mentions this as a Fenton pattern.

I'm not quite sure where you're getting the idea that this might be a modern piece. Can you provide a reference?

my guess is perhaps that mention of Fenton in the Hartung book is in error. DDoty relies fairly heavily on that book for IDs, so perhaps you could contact them for a clarification.

Okay, so don't laugh at me if this is silly, but when I was at that first link there are numbers in parenthesis ex. (2014), and I figured that meant the year it was made.

No - the year in parenthese is the year sold.

Hi Bren Sometimes we ask for certain information. It is not being obnoxious but only to help us help you. Other times we will refer you to a source to look for the id because that is what we would have to do to find your answer.
