I'm just curious if anyone has any guesses to a possible country of origin for this ring that I got a little while back and also date. And by marcasite, I might've meant hematite- I can't keep the two straight!!
The ring is completely unmarked- the seller said 1910s, but I could easily be modern to my eyes for all I know! I just got it because I love amethyst and silver and thought it was a cool shape!

i'd turn it upside down and say it's a tear drop inside a horseshoe !
it looks nicely made with some age to it....

JMHO, if old it would be 1920-30s, but I am getting a much newer vibe. I suspect late 20th early 21st century. Sorry!

it's ok- even if newer, I really do like it! =) It'll probably be very hard to tell for for sure especially with no markings!
I was actually thinking 1910s sounded quite dubious also- I agree that it totally looks like it could be modern!

Can't see the inside of the ring shank, but it looks cast and probably isn't older than the 1970's.

It looks pretty recent, but all the telltales will be on the back.

I agree, it is a very pretty shape.
Not to put an even worse damper on things, but the Chinese have been flooding the market with Victorian, Art Deco, etc style rings recently. Mostly pretty stones with marcasites. They are often sold as the real deal, even by 'jewellers' in the West.:arghh: I think this little beauty speaks with a Chinese accent.

It's ok AJ it'd good to know the truth about this! I bought it when I was a newb to jewelry collecting (well, i still am:p) so I had no clue what to look for in spotting fakes! I dont think i paid too tragically high for it or anything so its ok!
    @Ownedbybear I'n not sure-will have to investigate!

Sorry I haven't uploaded a pic of the back yet and now I must run off to work!

Buying vintage and antique jewellery has been getting more difficult over the years. When you start out you are bound to make some mistakes, that is how we all learn. The most important thing is to buy what you like, for a reasonable price. That way you'll still enjoy wearing it if it turns out to be not quite vintage or antique.
This is a cutie, just enjoy it.:) And if the furniture decides to bang into it, you won't have to worry it damaged a priceless antique.:playful:

Alright, sounds like it unanimously thought to be quite modern, but here some pics of the back just for fun! :D

@Ownedbybear hmm interesting! Here is a pic of it in darker lighting, not sure if that helps? It does always seems to be the same shade of purple in person!

Agree about always buying only things you like for a reasonable price! (And if I were investing a lot I would hopefully really do my research first in the future!) So glad I have to all here to help me figure these things out!:D

The ring is 1990s or later, but in sterling and amethyst it's hard to get hurt too much.

The most important things about jewellery are that it is made to be pretty and be enjoyed. This cutie ticks both boxes.:)

@Ownedbybear I think to my eye this looks the same, just brighter, but I'm not sure maybe it is a different shade than in incandescent light- what do you think? I unfortunately don't have any fluorescent lighting handy to snap a pic in!
