    Stunning emerald.
If I had the money I would bid, for the emerald and for Ukraine. But as much as I love emeralds and think Ukraine a more than worthy cause, I will have to support Ukraine in my own, much more humble, way.

I hope that other wealthy people follow her lead.
Surely there is fabulous jewelry tucked away in vaults that could be liberated for such a worthy cause.

Interesting story. Beautiful ring with great history. I would have expected a higher estimate. Thank you for posting this.Let’s hope it goes for as much money as possible!!

I had a silver coin from the Atocha and I treasured it.Until someone else treasured it more and relieved me of it. If I had that emerald nothing would pry it out of my hands ! As much as I feel for the Ukrainian people,Id have to sell something else or donate the amount it would bring. I was obsessed with the whole Mel Fisher story as a kid.

Wow! That's a beautiful ring. I dunno if I would part with my engagement ring, but likely with something else of similar value. Mrs. Perdue likely factored in the rarity, the story, the stone's origins and made her decision based on those factors bringing the most attention to the auction. I wonder if Sotheby's will announce the name of the new owner (I doubt it). Rest assured, it won't be me, lol!

I looked it up on Sotheby's and it was sitting at $65,000 and within a minute or two it went up to $85,000 with about 3 days to go. I think it will exceed the estimate ($70,000) by a great deal of money.

Sadly,it was stolen by a "friend" who turned out to be not so much of a friend. I even had found a thick old victorian silver chain to wear it on.It was set in a holder but easily removed . I can still see it in my mind so clearly.

I think it was one of those life lessons we all reluctantly end up learning about trusting too easily. Now the only person who knows where I hide the "good" stuff is mother !

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I just read this discussion for the first time. Found that the emerald ring finished at $1.2 million! How generous!
