Not so much a typo as a plain outright mistake .... meant 20th century. Mea culpa!

Welcome, Rainbowdust! May I suggest that you take your painting to a good framer for disassemblement! It is certainly old enough to be put together in an unmodern sort of way, and until you've done a few of these, let an expert show you how. Please.

I don't think the painting is a lost English masterpiece, but it is charming - if perhaps a little grubby. So spitting is a good idea.

Didn't think you were coming here to get that advice, did you? LOL!

That is exactly as I thought/felt when I first looked at it too.

ESTION: You say"....It is plaster on wood for sure". How did you determine this? I've never had to do this. Thanks!

Thanks Silver:) I wouldn't dare try to dismantle it myself ! Funny thing about all the spitting I've been doing lately - I have just been researching an old spittoon I have, to price it for sale, plus I just received my Ancestry DNA kit and I have to spit on that. My Saint Bernard just drooled all over me (mega dog spit lol). There's gotta be a message in this somewhere?lol

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Funny how things happen together like that sometimes...
