    Love the graphics!

The phrase on the top is apparently German for Merry Christmas (at least that's what Professor Google said) although I don't see anything very Christmas-y about the pictures. With the different views around the box it may be a souvenir type. Don't know which city or region, though.

    The "Spittlertor" is in Nuremburg.

Id guess 1920s in age,and probably had toys or something in it. Yes,there was once a world when every detail mattered, even the box you shipped something in !

Probably a candy gift box. Assuming you're in the U.S... Most likely will date from between the 1880s, which was the height of German immigration to the U.S., to 1914, which was when relationships between families was severed by the start of World War I. I'd think earlier in that range rather than later.

Nurnberger lebkuchen! They still often come in really nice boxes and tins, designed for reuse. We had Bavarian au pairs when I was little: they'd get lebkuchen sent over, very exotic at the time. Now, I buy them in Lidl.

Nürnberger Lebkuchen. very hard to give an age because post-WW2 they certainly had no tole left, so they might have dropped back to carton.
the pics used are generic Nuremberg.

Here are a few more. All are undated but one clearly has an art nouveau motif. In general, I would think the more elaborately-constructed ones (e.g. with moulding and locks) are older.

Good use for it. Lebkuchen boxes turn up even here, if not as often.

the only ones I remember that had something else besides the spices were special ones that had a layer of Marzipan inside and were choclate-covered.
