Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Regarding the corsets......if anyone watched ET tonight (something we NEVER watch.....we were BOTH too lazy to push the button), BUT they showed Kim Kardashiah (sp?) being laced into a corset for an 18" waist..... she could not bend, sit or go to the bathroom as long as she was laced IN.. so weird ....... FOR WHAAAAAAT????? BIZARRO!!!!:muted::muted:

I think you've taken the information given in the wrong way. When Greg and others here are referring to "sick" glass they are not referring to anything that can be removed by alcohol, or denture tablets, or any other "cleaning method" - they are referring to glass whose internal surface has been permanently etched by long term misuse. Certainly they aren't saying that the methods you've suggested wouldn't work for cleaning dirty glass or cloudy glass that isn't "sick". That is an important distinction. Greg and OBB are correct that truly "sick" glass is only curable by physically removing the etched layer by polishing with cerium oxide/polishing compound or by dissovling it with hydrochloric(muriatic) acid. Clearly you have methods that have worked for you for remedying cloudy glass before. No one is saying that isn't true or isn't worthwhile - and I for one appreciate your help in trying to get my piece cleaned/fixed, and hope to continue see you around the forum.

I actually found something !! Went to donate stuff at a local shop (that usually is not open !) and found 2 small American Brilliant dishes 5 and 6 inches. . First one signed Clark ! Now, I do not need any more cut glass (or anything else for that matter!--that is why I was there to DONATE !) but could not pass up for $3 each.
They were mixed in with some pressed glass pieces and were very dirty. Quick rinse and they shine !

I spotted this in a vendor's case at the flea market. Figuring it was too expensive, I asked him how much it was, trying not to get my hopes up.
He surprised me by telling me it was 10 euros, since one end is frayed. I talked him down to 8. I don't mind the frayed end very much; I think the braiding is gorgeous.

    Hi,
I let the denture tabs work for 24 hrs. No reason just been doing it for years. It usually happens because I get busy and forget about it.

They work great to clean crud out of glass. No good on fixing the "sick" stuff of course; that's essentially been "frosted" by whatever liquid was in it as though someone used etching acid. (just to reiterate - you could probably teach me everything I ever needed to know about glass) I've heard Dawn dish soap and metal washers will help get rid of other deposits. Not a method I'd try on fine crystal!

I have small copper balls specifically sold to clean good glass. They work quite well. Cheapest denture tablets, I keep stocks of!

    Hi,
I used to use BBs which were copper coated lead. They did a great job on a lot of problems. Now a days they are copper coated aluminium or something since lead is now outlawed. Stopped using them since they were no better than the uncooked rice that I use now.

Today's haul. The blue pin and the pineapple (Japanese ginbari and costume goldtone) are going to my mom; her birthday is at the end of the month. The shell oval is sterling, and ..dunno...about those earrings with the briolettes. I haven't checked them yet. The bracelet is marked 800 - not sure where the charms came from, but they need silver polish removal. The barrette is Japanese, so marked. The ring is sterling and big enough for a guy. That cameo is nothing to interest @Bronwen - plastic and wire-wrapped. I bought it for the chain, marked 10k inside the stiff clasp. The store didn't think to look and I wasn't about to tell them. "I'll take this please". DSCF1559.JPG
