Featured A perfect hunting day today

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all having a relaxing holiday weekend. I have new goodies to share with you!!! Today I drove a few hours away to deliver something, and I spent the rest of the day making my way back home stopping at thrift stores along the way. This is an area I probably only get to hunt every 3-4 months. I know the stores, but it's a bit of a slower process because I know the entire stock of the store has been replenished since the last time I visited. I stopped in to a smaller thrift store, and upon walking in the cashier let me know that everything was 50% off today. Scanning around, my eyes quickly honed in on some wood bowls with metal bases. The store had wrapped them all together in tape, however it took about 2 seconds to see "sterling handle" on one of the serving pieces. I grabbed it up and made my way to the register after checking out the rest of the store.

When I got to the register, the cashier told me "finally someone got those, they've been sitting here for a week, beautiful aren't they??" My response was of course they were, but we never bring up the topic of silver... So with the 50% discount, the entire set was $10!!!

The large bowl in the photo is 12" wide, and the 6 bowls are all 6" wide. Went to a bunch of other stores without much luck but managed to find a beat up spoon made by Nathaniel Francis, circa 1804-1827 NY. Kind of sad how it's beat up, but when I picked it up and felt that soft bend I knew it was going to be coin silver. 25 cents for the spoon. I still need to clean up the bowl set, but here's the photos.

I have a few of the larger bowls similar to yours (mine are ca.1960's) plus a couple of taller "compote" style ones, but I have never seen a full set like yours. Complete salad set - with coordinating salad servers to go with it: nice find!

The coin silver spoon is just the dressing on the salad!
