    Hi,
I decided to buy this, "Peony Rock" blue and white bowl, mainly because I found its history quite fascinating.
Unfortunately, it was already broke at the time of purchase. Consequently, I only paid €35 for it.

Would anyone happen to know the best way or place to send it for repair?

    Thanking you in anticipation.

What a wonderful cup with such an interesting history. It's the first I've heard of the Nanking Cargo and I just finished reading about the ship and it's cargo and how the porcelain was sold at Christie's. I would love to have an original piece of China trade porcelain. I don't have an answer for you, other than it's expensive to have porcelain professionally repaired. I found an art restoration shop outside of Boston (Mass) years ago that was used by art museums, but their prices were very high and my candlesticks were not worth it, so I glued them myself. I hope you post a picture of the repaired cup when it's done.

Technically, I think, the repair is made with lacquer, and faced in gold. It's doubtful you would find a Kintsugi studio in Cyprus; but the piece, as MOS noted, is worthy of some effort and expense to restore. Good fortune to you, AnMarie!

A little late, but imo it is best to do the repair yourself. A professional repair will probably cost you more than this lovely bowl is worth.

I have a small Nanking Cargo/Geldermalsen bowl that my mother bought when they just became available.
Although we have quite a range of Chinese porcelain of the period that ended up in the Netherlands, the Nanking and other shipwreck beauties really remind you of what was involved in shipping from one faraway place to another.

Maybe this is of help for your project, a description of a 'technique' one of our porcelain collectors has developed using simple household superglue, post #14:
