Hey board, today I picked up this lamp from a friend. It was his dad's and no longer wants it. He estimated his Dad got the lamp in the 40s or 50s but history beyond that is unknown. It does have a nice brass finial as well but it's not shown in these pictures. I'll try to add a better pic tomorrow. Thank you

    How tall, Jimbo?

A couple pics of the full piece in natural light will help.

Do you have the original shade?

It looks like a Japanese Satsuma vase that has been converted into a lamp.

Yes, definitely Asian/Japanese. Perhaps his father got it during WWII? It has a beautiful base. Very beautiful.

Thank you. Not sure. His father was not a veteran. I do love the vase and haven't been able to find anything with a base similar in sold listimgs

Here's some pictures taken in better light. Backstory is his father was given this as a kid.... I should add I'm probably on the younger side in this forum. I'm in my 30s.

I would like to sell this lamp but satsuma lamp prices seem to be all over the map. Any advice on how to price it both locally and online? I have yet to find one with a base this nice IMG_20190706_102245345-2004x2672.jpg IMG_20190706_102251831-1603x2137.jpg IMG_20190706_102256712-2137x1603.jpg

I agree with the other posters as to Japanese Satsuma. Hard to date without seeing a mark. By making into a lamp greatly reduces the value. However it sure is nice.
