Hit the charity shops. Not cheap, it cost me £25 but it's gorgeous. 800 silver and even the links are enamelled. The scarab is rose quartz. Lovely quality too. View on age and origin would be welcome: my gut feel is between the wars, 20s ish P1200923 small.JPG P1200922 small.JPG P1200928 small.JPG P1200926 small.JPG P1200927 (2) small.JPG P1200924 small.JPG P1200921 small.JPG .

It's beautiful! I think between the wars as well. Although it looks a bit like a cross between Egyptian revival and Art Nouveau.

Definitely a more than fair price Owned ! Just out of curiosity folks-I'd imagine overall prices on the Coasts (East & West) have to be bloated compared to the Rust Belt,Mid-West,South & remote parts of the North East-Yay/Nay ?

Ooh that’s nice! Even I would have handed over £25 for that one. Is that glue on the back? What are the markings under it?

It's something, might be old glue. The marks are sort of fake hieroglyphs.

It reminds me of Lluis Masriera jewellery, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a connection.
You know the Catalan Art Nouveau jewellery designer/goldsmith? He also designed Egyptian Revival Art Nouveau, I posted a pair of his ER earrings in the Thing of Beauty thread.

    ***Catalan jeweler Lluis Masriera !!!
He gives Lalique a bit of competition-stupefyingly beautiful.
These pieces I'd actually go elbow to elbow w/ the most savage Joolies & spend real money on.

No idea, but I'd have thrown $30 at that too. I'd have pegged it at about where Bear did too, age-wise. Right about when Egyptian designs were white hot, and right before Deco took over the Universe.

My my, that's a pretty thing!
I see that some of the enamel sections are open backed ... is it plique-à-jour?

Can’t see that not bringing $200-$500. I’d say you paid peanuts. I guess just more than you typically pay at charity shops.

Definitely a steal at that price! I've always wondered what the marks on the backs of all the scarab jewelry were. It definitely has that Art Nouveau feel to the lines, but Egyptian revival exploded post 22 so...somewhere near there for sure.

Our Brits are so lucky with all those clueless sellers.
There were several important waves of Egyptian Revival, starting with the French campaign in Egypt (and Syria), 1798-1801, over a century before Carter's discovery.
There was also interest in Ancient Egyptian designs during the Art Nouveau period, especially the lotus designs, which went with the nature-themed Art Nouveau style.
