Featured Lockbox/treasure chest

I found a very cool but unfortunately broken lockbox. The hinge on the right side is broken. I am wondering when this could be from. It appears to be very old. I really like it's style

 

In the UK we call things like this 'tramp art', pieces originally associated with itinerants and sold for a bit of cash. They are generally early 20th century.

 

I don't get the impression that this box is very old. It looks like the things that were available in decor stores like Bombay Company. Those machine made nails are one of the first things that caught my attention. The color on the bottom matches the inside. The bent over latch piece that goes through the top is not nearly secure enough for a "Lock" box in my opinion.

 

and the metal running all over the box carving on the outside....is just wrong..imo

 

My first thought too. It just doesn't look old - Homegoods, Bombay Company etc. Not meant to deceive anyone.
