Featured A probably amber netsuke of a cat or is it a fox... opinions? Signature?

    This is nice. Reacts to UV - or at least the highlights do, so it might be reconstituted but it's certainly carved. Anyone make out the siggie please?

    I would say it's a cat, just foxy colored.

    That is so cute! And ditto on cat.
    It could be Burmese amber, which is popular in China and often has this colour, as well as a darker reddish shade.
    But as usual, the Chinese also make faux Burmese amber, which is also very pretty.
    Whichever material it was, it was likely heated and pressed into a mold, and the details were carved.
    China has made netsukes for the Japanese and internatonal market ever since the Qing dynasty.

    I love this! Some of my very favorite things in a piece - A Netsuke, amber and a cat.

    It's very fine, isn't it. The dealer sold it for the price of a coffee! Lord knows why.
