I bought this bracelet for about 5 euros over melt value today, figuring that it looks old enough to be valuable. The circular rose sections look gold plated to me.

Any thoughts on age or origin? I remember someone on this board recently saying something about square levers on these kinds of clasps, compared to round ones, and that square ones are older...

Square box clasp slides are still being made today, however, this bracelet has age.
Could we see a closeup of one of the rose panels please?

Is that a 925 mark on the tongue of the clasp?
My guess would be 1950s German. Just a guess.

    Yeah.

Thank you! Darn, I thought it would be older.

Also, hope you're feeling better! :)

I try to buy antique, so I thought that with the marcasites, it was more art deco era.

Thank you for the analysis! :)

    Getting there.:)
Marcasites are still used for a bit of bling without being ostentatious. Civilized bling.:D
Let's wait for the others, I could be way off.:)

I thought you were referring to the little bit you press to release the clasp as being square instead of round, since these box & tongue clasps are commonly square.

It may just be perspective, but I have sense that closed length of bracelet is on the small side. Is it less than 7.5 inches?

    Yeah, that's what I meant.

When closed, it is 7.48 inches (19 cm) long.

Does that mean a total length of 18cm? That would fit me comfortably.
Most German traditional dress wearers wear their link bracelets pretty tight around the wrist.

Sorry, I meant to type 19 cm.

Then would that suggest it is newer as well?

No, that size is perfect throughout the 20th century. Depends on the wrist of the wearer. German ladies preferred to be a bit more voluptuous.
    I hope I said that nicely.:shame:

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

To me the style seems somewhat earlier than the 1950s. Maybe 1930s? But really that's just a wild guess. Looks like it could use a good cleaning!
