Found (caught my eye) in one of those little baggies where they bundle odds and ends together in a thrift store. This gives off a really old vibe(at least to me). I don't really know how old it actually is, or where from for that matter. It's 3.75" (9.5cm) in height. It has a hairline glaze crack and some crazing (especially in one particular area, but not all over). Any ideas on age/where from? I have cleaned it off with a very lightly dampened cloth - it had some pretty dirty areas on it.

from the colour and base i get the feeling late 19th century chinese, maybe provincial ?

    I love it.
It looks like Chinese provincial ware to me too. It was mostly made in Fujian province for export to other Asian countries.
The more 'unorganised' designs, like this one, are said to be earlier, although not much is known about it. This ware is not researched nearly as much as other Chinese wares.
Unfortunately the age (Ming period?) is hardly reflected in the value. And the crack is a problem, of course. A real cutie nonetheless.

In Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore it is also known as Kitchen Qing or Batik Ware, after the splatters which look like wax on batik. Nowadays it is mostly collected in those countries, and by silly people like yours truly.:D
Is this one for you personal collection or do you intend to sell it? (she asked eagerly;))

    Hi,
I would have snatched that piece out of the bag in a nanosecond. Even with the crack it is BEAUTIFUL>

Thank you so much AJ :):) Color me not surprised that you could shed some light on this one. :) Appropriately - it did remind me of Batik patterns/splatters! I really don't know what I'm going to do with this little fellow yet. I do really enjoy the look of it, and it's small enough to not demand a lot of space to display it, so it may end up on display here but once I decide I'll let you know for sure!

    Any time.:)
It is certainly very decorative and equally cute, so I understand if you want to keep it. If not, you know where to find me.:playful:
