Anyone ever see anything like this?
What would you call the carving style?
It belongs to my neighbor, wonder if it's antique.
Joinery is all mortise and tenon, dovetail drawers, not really 'fine' woodworking except the carving, which I can tell has some stylized animals (the ones I can make out, anyway! see the crab on the top middle panel)- the doors used to have locks which were covered up.
There is no other ornamentation on the cabinet.

Very nice cabinet, the carving on the upper section reminds of Kumiko. Not sure if it falls into that category.

Kumiko is usually built piece by piece, this is all carved.

Those panels remind me of Vietnamese carvings. My impression is its a newer piece, from the 60s maybe. Beautiful thing.

Same here. It is beautiful, and I agree, not very old.

i would like to call that a huanghuali "hundred antiques" wedding/dowry cabinet.

It does look like it could be huali wood. I am not seeing any huang, which is the term for that beautifully subtle yellowish colour on antique huali furniture, from exposure to light.
So possibly huali, but not huanghuali imo.

Whichever the wood or the age, it is a beauty.
