Featured Wedgwood

Hello,
I am new, here but have finally gone through some boxes I inherited from my Mothers passing. She adored her Wedgwood pieces and would have them on display at our house. I regret that I didn't pay attention when I was young, or I would have known the date of this piece. Anyone have any idea the date of this? I believe it is a creamer, and is Jasperware? Thank you so much, in advance!

 

Welcome to the forum Debbie Beautiful piece of Wedgwood, yes to a creamer, I believe because it is marked Wedgwood England it will date 1891-1908

 

I haven't seen that motif before.

 

@Bronwen is good at mythological scenes. Maybe she can say?

 

Sad it got cracked, but still lovely to look at!!! OH, and big WELCOME to ANTIQUERS!!!!!

 

I haven't either. I found another creamer with it but that was all.

The woman lamenting and the servant washing her feet could be from a 19th century painting of a Roman scene? Alma Tadema-esque?

It''s dipped jasperware, which is slightly less common. Late 19th.

 

Can't remember Alma Tadema ever painting that....

Ah, but as with L.M. Alcott, you really don't know what they produced "under cover of darkness". Some of THAT Little Woman's work was pretty, uh, adult only...............
