Hello all. Years ago we inherited a lot of personal items from an elderly family member who had passed away. Amongst the numerous photos was this sepia tone photo of a crying girl who intruded into what would have been a lovely photo of a young woman all dressed up. The original is about standard size for photos there, eg about 2” x 3”. I do not have any other photos depicting these people. Perhaps the photographer thought he got the shot correct on a single shot, and got a surprise when he developed it!

Given where our family members are from my guess is that this was taken in New York-New Jersey. There are no marks on the back (so, no studio). Our deceased relative had several old cameras from the 1930s as well, so this could very well be an amateur shot.

I presume it was taken in the 1930s (although I’m getting a flapper vibe from the headband and short hair style), but I know that some of you out there can date the photo by the woman’s hair style, dress, shoes, etc. I’m sure there are some of you who can even identify the chair! Any thoughts are appreciated!

    Thanks!

Comparing to the know dates of photos I have in my possession, I would put this in mid 1920s.

1920s. Bobbed hair. (Way) above the ankle skirt.

Thanks. The family member who passed away and had owned the photo was born in 1916. So, I don't think he can be the child in the photo, as the child looks to be about 3 years old (plus I think the child is a girl, but I'm not up on children's fashions from that era, either).

And the little bit of the eave of the house shows me that this is a bungalow style building, probably built circa 1915 - 5 rooms and a bath, single story, in a new subdivision, possibly Nassau County NY, probably the outskirts of Elizabeth NJ............oh! and the photo was taken after 14.00 hours on a "holiday" Tuesday, possibly in July..........................:rolleyes::rolleyes::smuggrin:

you do get that I am being an arse, right??
