Featured Large carnelian? Watch fob

    This was on a pocket watch chain that was worn all the way through the gold fill. Should date to around 1900-1910 based off of the chain. The fob is 9ct gold and what appears to be a very large carnelian stone? I think it is carnelian although I am not certain. What do you guys think? I was planning on wearing it on a necklace.

    I agree, carnelian.
    Does it balance well when put on a chain? I am thinking of the shape.

    If there were more of a structure, you could call it some kind of agate, such as dendritic:

    Amorphous black inclusions are not unusual in carnelian.
