Just wondered if anyone can ID this makers mark for me please?
Sweet little pail. Possibly missing a lid?
Any ideas of its use or age?
    Thankyou :)

10cm diameter across the top and 12cm across the base. 6cm tall.
It was in a box of junk and caught my eye as worth a second look.

It seems to be the mark of Taylor, Tunnicliffe & Co., although I was seeing a G instead of a C.

Definitely worth a second look! But rather smaller than I thought. I think it must have had a lid, but for what? Biscuits? Individual ice bucket?

I would have thought a biscuit barrel, possibly had a metal lid once. Still looks very cute without it.

It’s far easier to “search” than to “know”

I see there's one called a lozenge jar. Was that a thing? And another called a jam jar. Just call it a jar and be done with it. There's a big one on worthpoint listed as a tobacco/humidifier jar, a neat combination....

Same site says middle piece is an open salt:

Bronwen you may have cracked it!. Maybe it never had a lid.
If it did it sat on the top as it gets wider further down and there is no ridge for a lid to sit on.

Maybe mines for someone who likes a lot of salt?!
I couldn't make head or tail of dating this from the information on the web. Blue stamp so either pre 1901 or post war. Other than that I can't seem to find a list of years when certain stamps were used.

For some condiment, I think, from the dimensions. Mustard? Mint jelly? :cat: Hard to tell if it’s missing a lid. Give this silver a polish. Is there some silver overlay on the pot?

Yes there is silver plating on the rim which is very worn and some gold and silver paint on the pot itself which is in better nick.
