Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

and found two 'tea' or dish towels I didn't realize I had.....Obviously from things Mom had given me EONS ago, or at least came from her!!! WHERE she got them, HEAVEN only knows!!! But these 'towels' have been BEARS to TRY and photograph!!! They have never been used, and the folds in them are heavy.....trying various angles I got something "sort of" useful to show, but in Google searching also found similar (not exact as the end decorations are different!!) on Worthpoint!!! Which, you guessed it..... @Kronos, I need to respectfully and kindly ask for your help, if you would be so kind!!! As that's where Google found a pair!! My images, for what they're worth first: And then Worthpoint page....their description is pretty close to how I would also describe mine...which are NOT as dark as my images....I tried everything I could to make the writing on them visible too, but the sheen on the towels made that just about impossible!!! Also Width: 18 1/2", Length 36 1/2 including fringe :

And thank you one and all for ANY HELPFUL input, especially @Kronos!!!!

Wow! Any idea about the fiber? Could it be linen?

Absolutely, it's unwashed/never been washed linen!! At least to the best of my knowledge....with that sheen on it....look at the similar one on Worthpoint!!

An' you've got two of 'em?
Are both monogrammed with the 'S'?
Pick the best one for keepers; then perhaps donate the other to your local DAR chapter, or other non-profit Patriotic enterprise.
    Just an opinion, Aqui...

I'm betting they're from the anniversary of something; they're not from 1783 alas. We wish.

With that sheen, could it be cotton damask?

To ME, it definitely has a new linen look to it, but then I haven't compared it to 'cotton damask' either! Was AWFUL to try and get a visible image of, I do know THAT, what with that sheen!!!:rolleyes::eek:

No. That was a celebration of the country's bicentennial. I suspect this was a piece produced for Washington's electoral centennial celebration.

And in ALL my looking/searching, I don't think I've seen two EXACTLY alike!!! In fact, only have seen maybe 4......no idea who even made these!! The DAR might be a good resource to check......thanks, @wlwhittier !! I do like that mine are the only ones I've seen with Stars too!!! More Patriotic!!!:happy:

Shizam what a great item! I'd never seen one before! They do have a lovely sheen ... with the red - I'm guessing probably cotton...?

1789..duh. The Constitution didn't exist until 1787. Might have been from the 150th anniversary. They commemorated the 50-year anniversaries and such before WWII a lot more than we do now. At one point election day was even a local holiday in some areas. Everyone took the day off to go vote, made special cakes etc.

My guess would be a fine linen damask.
There are collectors of antique red and white fringed "show towels".

@Northern Lights Lodge, @bluumz, anyone else?.... I don't want to wash it, but any suggestions on reducing the folds in it?? They're both pretty white, except the other has a "rust" sort of small stain I'm not going to touch......I fiddled with brighteness/ darkness/contrast digitally....to get the printing to show better.......am leery of putting a warm iron on it as well.......without someone with more knowledge than I on how to handle them with this "sheen" ..... thank you!!!!
