Hi again. I have this 8" wide (2" tall) studio bowl. I liked the glaze and thought it looked more sophisticated than average.

There's a kind of 'feathering' on the bottom glazed part, and also some light texture on the unglazed part, neither of which I understand how were created.

    And then there's a hieroglyph-like 'signature'... huh?

    Any comments are appreciated!

I know nothing, but that is certainly a fine looking piece of clay...thanks!

The texture on the unglazed base appears to be the result of (intentionally produced) chatter between tool & almost dry surface.

edit: The mark, at least the left-hand character, is reminiscent of Farsi, or perhaps another middle eastern script. I'm reaching, here, obviously...

My DIL was trained in Farsi while serving in the US Navy.
Her comments, when I asked her about this mark, are quoted:

"I’d orient it as below. It looks like it /may/ be the name Hameed. Which could be a Persian or Arab artist, or pottery line like Frankoma. Signatures are hard as a lot of artistic license is taken with them much like in English. My money would be on Arab based on the way the dots are placed.
    I hope this helps."
