Featured The three quid job lot

Grabbed a handful of bits last Sunday. The nice girl selling said two quid. I grab some more, she says three quid. So I fish out a fiver. Oh no, she said, I mean three quid the lot, I couldn't ask five. (!)

The single earring is 9 carat gold, I could not find its spouse. Hey ho. The blue brooch had a vinegar scrub. It glows....

 

The little square pendant might be one by some Scandinavian maker whose name escapes me but they sell for good money if it is. I want to say Olga something but I may well be wrong.

 

It’s marked Finland, but I can’t read the rest of it! Too gunked. I need to toothpick it.

 

Yes it is the maker I’m thinking of then. Still can’t remember the name though

Excuse me for asking such a question, maybe the question is funny, but it is interesting for me.
Please tell me what is a vinegar scrub?
Will they check something with vinegar?

 

Vinegar being acidic is something that will help get rid of the "greenies" which is the green discoloration that shows up many times on jewelry.

If you don't take care of it the green can spread to other pieces.

You do have to be careful what kind of piece you use it on such as a rhinestone piece because you would want to get the stones wet. However, if it is all metal then you could safely put it in a bowl with some vinegar & let it soak for a few minutes.

The piece should always be rinsed well after the vinegar bath & then patted dry. You can also use a hair dryer set to low heat to aid in the drying.

Some people also use ketchup but needless to say, that can get quite messy.

 

Maybe @Ownedbybear will show us the after photos so that you can see the difference.

I have been using vinegar baths on the hardware from some of my perfume atomizers & have been very pleased with the results. One of mine didn't have any green discoloration but was just very dull & grimy. It cleaned up beautifully.

 

But be careful, remember vinegar is acidic! I was soaking a piece, forgot about it and a few hours later it wasn't a pretty site

 

I've had a few pieces get the greenies after using vinegar to clean off older greenies.(rolleyes) You have to dry them thoroughly afterward.
