Featured Help With 2 Items Opals & Amethyst

Hi all, I need some help with a couple of items I picked up this weekend.
Any information is appreciated

#1 is a 1970s sterling ring from Finland, 2 purple stones that I think are Amethyst, but I'm not a jewel person so I could be wrong. They are facet cut (is that the correct term?) and have black inclusions in them - is that bad?

 

#2 are opal earring and a pendant/necklace. The pendant is marked 925, no mark on the earring or chain. Again, I know zip about jewels so did some searching and found a site talking about doublets and triplets. I took side views and can see layering that looks even - the site says if even they will not be real opals. It is hard to tell what the black back on them is as they are very small, but maybe glass or stone - it is shiny and appears hard. They are very pretty from the front but hard to get a photo of all the colours.
So what do you fine folks think?

 

Lower quality amethyst can have inclusions and the opals appear to be triplets.

Cool ring! If opals aren’t in an old setting or really high end setting I tend to assume they are not real until proven otherwise.

Particularly when in nice but kinda factory mass made settings with generic .925 marks.

 

thanks for the tip @J Dagger The opal set was $1.00 (the ring was also $1), so I figured they would be good learning pieces as I don't think I have ever bought opals before. I couldn't see the marks on the ring as it was pretty dirty, but it looked right for being a nice thing I got another ring I'll have to ask about, I think it has bone for the stone

 

I’m not sure I’m in a position to offer tips on the subject but that’s what I’d do . For one dollar each I’d buy a thousand of them. There’s a good market for anything opal, particularly in sterling.

 

Synthetic opals were not available until 1974. Opal triplets were not common until the 1960's.

Beauty! They are rightfully one of the most sought after stones. They do seem magical and mysterious! A nice opal specimen to look at and ponder is now officially on my list of things to find.

Have you seen the Adam Sandler movie ‘Uncut Gems’? An opal specimen is one of the costars of the film. Pretty interesting flick.
