Do you think the lamp sat in a base of some kind? I would think that shape of the base would make it easy to knock over.
I would bet they are made from paper mache' or gesso covered balsa wood - being that they are light in weight.
He kinda sorta looks like Pope John Paul VI.

I know the OP said it felt weird in the hand if it was a walking stick handle etc but I see signs that this piece was in contact with skin a lot....
Considering the size and the extra support piece that kept the trap/pipe from moving, I would guess it's from something along the lines of a train...
Be careful with the acid. You get that on your skin and it may not feel like anything but it will leave a nasty burn
